    May 4, 2017

From April Fools day to Disneyland Paris’ 25th Anniversary, last month we saw some hilarious, brilliant and almost unbelievable campaigns across social media and print. We’ve collated our favourites…

    Google Gnome

This was an April Fool that a few of us almost fell for… introducing Google Gnome – The smart yard is finally here. The Google team developed a very convincing website, which boasted incredible features for human and dog, from mowing the lawn to playing fetch. It even included several outfits for the Gnome, including ‘The Abominable Gnomeman’, ‘H2GnOme’ and ‘My Lil’ Gnomey’. Definitely worth a watch, you can see the full video here.

    Spring Fair 2017

    February 14, 2017

With over 2,500 exhibitors across 14 sectors, Spring Fair opened it’s doors to over 60,000 visitors. We’ve collated our top picks and top trends from the show

    Spring Fair – Top Trends

Still going strong, flamingos and tropical prints stole the show this year, on everything from greetings card, gift wrap, tableware and plush. Trend forecasting agency Trend Bible explain “Why are we still seeing flamingos and cacti motifs? Trends sometimes stick around a lot longer than you’d think – they appear to be fads at first, but they have more longevity than you would imagine. This is because trends trickle down to more mainstream consumer groups. The initial audience for this type of novelty product, the Early Adopters, will typically move on to the next thing quite quickly, but new, more mainstream audiences (we call them the Late Majority) begin to pick up on these trends. The Late Majority audience is a much bigger portion of society so we tend to see trends really explode when they hit this consumer group, which can be a year or two years after the trend is first evidenced.”

    Toy Fair 2017

    February 2, 2017

The UK’s largest Toy Fair opened its doors last week to over 270 companies, showcasing the latest toys, gadgets and games. We’ve collated a list of our favourites below…

We were excited to see Youtube sensation Molang make an appearance at the show this year. Tomy, recently named European master toy partner, showcased a range of new super soft plush as well as figures and play sets.
Created by Hye-Ji Yoon the character and his bashful best friend Piu Piu gained popularity first in Korea through instant messaging apps. Molang has the ability to connect with a wide demographic, from toddlers to teens through social media, it’s super cute style and it contains no dialogue – no doubt helping sell the series into 150 countries worldwide. With over 1000 products available across Asia already, we’re expecting big things here too. Molang was screened last year on DisneyJunior and you can also catch it here on Youtube. (Prepare to fall in love).

    What’s new?

    Yule Blogged

    December 14, 2016

After last year’s website reveal in the form of an advent calendar, we thought this year’s mailer would have to be something special. A few ideas were thrown around the studio until one stuck, what if we did some 3D typography? We had already been pinning and looking at new styles of type for a new Styleguide we were working on and with the amazing work already out there we decided to put our hand to it.

This blog is the process that we went through to create this piece (image – if you havent seen it).

The initial idea was set, we were going to do a 3D Christmas typography piece, now what would it say? Brilliantly suggested in the studio was the phrase ‘Yule Tide’ but with the twist of ‘Tide’ being ‘Tied’ to link up the text.

To begin with we used some existing fonts to create the text and then some illustrator magic to link the type in our rough layouts we’d be taking into Maya. With the text sorted (what we thought at the time) we had to decide on the look. It’s meant to be Christmassy and everyone has a Christmas jumper so… we were to give the type a woollen jumper feel. We picked out some starter colours and texture swatches and our 3D journey would begin!

The generation directly after the Millennials, Generation Z are emerging as the next big thing for market researchers and trend forecasters. Digitally fluent, independent, pragmatic and curious, by 2020, its estimated that Gen Z will make up 40% of consumers.

Generation Z don’t remember a time before social media, they live their lives – from interacting with friends and family, to making purchases online – via their smartphones. This has profound implications for everything from their relationships, how they learn, to virtual reality training and problem solving.
Building on their digital abilities, we’re seeing a rise in blending physical and digital in the home, in-store within advertising and product, Joanna, MD, of Trend Forecasting company Trend Bible, talks about the development of this within Generation Z, and the impact it will have on parenting, play and learning:

“As specialists in forecasting the future of family life we have built a strong understanding of this generation and their behaviours. We’re especially interested in how they make decisions alongside their parents, so things like balancing screen-time with the development of ‘real world’ skills is where Generation Z and their parents conflict in views. We are forecasting future trends that fuse and blend the physical and digital, responding to all senses. Scientists explore the relationship between sight, sound, scent, taste and touch and manipulate these to create alternative experiences that go beyond the screen. Sensory stimulation becomes an opportunity to add a new dimension of engagement and experience to children’s products.”
